You never know where life is going to take you…..

I didn’t set out to be an Accountant. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities from Michigan State University, and a previous work history of one year jobs; nothing ever seemed to be a good fit. Then, back in 2005, with an infant son at home and the need for flexible, part-time work, a friend offered me the position of bookkeeper for her Interior Design firm. Though I informed her that I had zero accounting experience, she assured me, “but you’re good at math, you’ll figure it out!” Sure, why not? I am, after all, a math enthusiast.

Well, figure it out, I certainly did. Accounting fit as nothing had before. I taught myself the Quickbooks software, and was on my way. It went well. So well, in fact, that the CPA of that firm had another client in need of a bookkeeper and recommended me. And then another…..and that is how it has gone, a book of business based almost entirely on referrals.

I am now a certified Quickbooks ProAdvisor and truly enjoy the work. I feel that I am helping my clients, providing services that, though essential to running a successful, healthy business, most people are either unwilling or unable to do. No problem! You concentrate on what you do well, and I’ll take care of the books.
